OTROS DIEZ ARGELINOS DEPORTADOS - 10 MORE ALGERIANS DEPORTED
A última hora nos han comunicado que diez nuevos ciudadanos argelinos han salido hoy de la ciudad camino de Argelia. Desconocemos por el momento si los han llevado al CIE de Málaga u otro.
Los ciudadanos de India, concentrados desde hace más de un mes en la Plaza de España, anuncian una nueva huelga de hambre a partir del próximo lunes. Esta vez tomarán solamente agua, y no azúcar, como hicieron durante la huelga de 24 días que mantuvieron anteriormente.
Durante la semana pasada y lo que va de esta están recibiendo numerosas muestras de solidaridad, son numerosas las personas que los visitan cada día para facilitarles comida, ropa y, les muestran su apoyo.

We have just been told that ten more Algerian citizens have left the city today and are on their way to Algeria. We don’t know yet if they have been taken to the CIE in Málaga or somewhere else.
The Indian citizens who have been assembled for over a month in the Plaza de España have announced a new hunger strike starting from next Monday. This time, they will only drink water and will not take sugar, as they did during their earlier 24-day strike.
Over the past week they have been receiving a number of displays of solidarity; many people visit them every day to provide them with food, clothing and to show their support.

HUELGA DE HAMBRE EN EL CIE DE MÁLAGA DE LOS 10 ARGELINOS REPRESALIADOS - THE ALGERIAN HUNGER STRIKE CONTINUES IN MÁLAGA
Hoy nos han comunicado desde "Capuchinos" (CIE de Málaga) que los 10 compañeros argelinos represaliados por la huelga de hambre en Melilla siguen manteniendo la misma tras su detención.
Por otra parte en la Plaza de España de Melilla siguen concentrados 6 hindúes de la provincia de Cachemira desde hace más de un mes y tras 23 días de huelga de hambre.
En el CETI de Melilla todas las noches se ven salir decenas de personas de diversas nacionalidades que buscan un sitio en la calle donde dormir y escapar a una posible redada policial que acabe con su expulsión tras varios años de retención.
Decenas de personas también piden todos los días ser repatriados a su país ante la perspectiva de permanecer ociosos en el CETI durante años, sin ser escuchados por nadie.
Esta es la situación de catástrofe humanitaria actual en la que viven cientos de personas encerradas contra su voluntad en la ciudad de Melilla. Situación que no parece preocupar en absoluto a los responsables políticos que como un carrusel van pasando por la ciudad y que nos lleva a pensar que el único y verdadero interés "del SISTEMA" pudiera ser el de presentar indefinidamente una situación de alarma y sobresaturación en el CETI de Melilla que les permita obtener subvenciones y mantener la actividad y el negocio vivo.... Olvidando que la mercancía son seres humanos: hombres, mujeres y niños que se han visto obligados a marchar de sus casas por las más diversas razones, la mayor parte de las veces como consecuencia de la guerra, la corrupción, el saqueo y, la ausencia de respeto a los Derechos Humanos, de reyezuelos y dictadores de todo pelaje subvencionados por la UE y los EEUU.

We received information today from “Capuchinos” (the C.I.E./Internment Centre for Foreigners in Málaga) that the 10 Algerian comrades who faced sanction for their hunger strike in Melilla are continuing to maintain their hunger strike following their arrest and detention.
In other news, 6 Indians from the state of Kashmir continue to demonstrate in the Plaza de España in Melilla now for over a month, and following 23 days on hunger strike.
In Melilla’s CETI, every night one sees tens of people of various nationalities looking for a place to sleep in the street to avoid the possibility of being captured in a police raid that would end in their expulsion after many years of being held here.
Tens of people are also asking constantly to be repatriated to their countries, as they are faced with a future of remaining stuck pointlessly in the CETI for years, and not being heard by anyone.
This is the current situation of humanitarian catastrophe in which hundreds of people locked up against their will in the city of Melilla have to live. This situation doesn’t seem to bother the political authorities at all, who continue to wheel around town as if on a fairground carousel. This leads us to think that they the only true interest of “the SYSTEM” is to portray the situation as one of indefinite threat and overcrowding in the CETI in Melilla, which allows them to receive subsidies and to keep their activities going as if they were “business as usual”. They forget that in this “business”, the “merchandise” ends up being human beings – men, women and children who have had to leave their homes for innumerable reasons, but for the most part as a result of war, corruption, looting, a lack of respect for human rights on the part of chieftains and dictators of all kinds subsidized by the EU and the US.

A lo largo de todo el día hemos intentado conseguir información sobre la situación de los argelinos detenidos a las 7 horas de la mañana. Al medio día tuvimos noticias que diez de ellos habían sido trasladados de Comisaría al CETI para recoger sus efectos personales. A las siete de la tarde recibimos informaciones de que los detenidos permanecían en Comisaría, incomunicados en los calabozos y, que no habían recibido la visita de ningún abogado. De hecho el abogado que cubría el turno de guardia en Comisaría no tenía conocimiento, ni había visto, ni había sido advertido de la presencia de 34 personas detenidas en los calabozos de Comisaría.
A las 20:30 recibimos una llamada comunicándonos que 10 argelinos iban a ser deportados de forma inmediata y que los restantes 24 serían trasladados al CETI de Melilla, hasta el lunes, que deberían presentarse de nuevo en Comisaría.
Los inmigrantes han estado en los calabozos de Comisaría más de doce horas: incomunicados, sin defensa jurídica, hacinados.
Sobre las 20:30 PRODEIN Y APDHML enviaron un fax tanto a la Delegación del Gobierno como a la propia Comisaría de Policía solicitando inspeccionar los calabozos de la misma y comprobar las condiciones en que se encontraban los inmigrantes detenidos....Con que garantías jurídicas se estaban realizando los procesos.
A lo largo de la noche no ha habido respuesta y sobre las 21:00 pasaron por delante nuestra tres furgones de Policía Nacional en dirección al puerto de Melilla con los diez argelinos deportados. Con toda seguridad los diez ingresarán mañana en el CIE de Málaga y serán deportados en poco tiempo a Argelia.
Los deportados han cometido el delito de "manifestarse pacíficamente haciendo una huelga de hambre de tres semanas" en lucha por la libertad de movimiento y contra la retención de hasta casi cuatro años que vienen sufriendo los inmigrantes en el CETI de Melilla. Los detenidos esta mañana y los deportados esta noche lo han sido como consecuencia de una inexplicable represalia tomada por el representante local de nuestro gobierno socialista. Solo así es explicable que solo hayan sido detenidos y deportados los participantes en dicha huelga.
En el pulso entre Zapatero y Berlusconi por ver quién expulsa a más inmigrantes y que métodos son mejores, Zapatero se puede apuntar diez más.

LATEST INFORMATION ON THE BRUTAL CRACKDOWN ON MIGRANTS ON STRIKE IN MELILLA
During the day we tried to obtain further information about the situation of the Algerians who were detained at about 07.00 yesterday. At midday we received news that ten of them had been transferred from the Comisaría to the CETI to collect their personal effects. At 19.00 we received information that the detainees were being held incommunicado in cells in the Comisaría, and had not been permitted a visit from a lawyer. In fact, the lawyer who was on call for that shift in the Comisaría did not have any knowledge of, had not seen, and had not been informed of the presence of 34 people detained in the Comisaría’s cells.
At 20.30 we received a telephone call informing us that 10 Algerians were going to be deported with immediate effect, and the remaining 24 would be transferred back to the CETI in Melilla until Monday, when they would have to appear once again at the Comisaría.
The migrants have been packed together in the cells of the Comisaría for over 12 hours, held incommunicado, and without access to legal defence.
At 20.30 PRODEIN and APDHML sent a fax to both the Delegation of the Government and to the Police Headquarters, asking to inspect the cells at the latter to examine the conditions in which the detained migrants were being held and to ask what the legal bases were for the actions taken.
During the night there was no reply. At around 21.00 three vans of the Policía Nacional passed below us in the direction of Melilla’s port, carrying ten deported Algerians. It is safe to say that the ten will in the morning be admitted to the CIE (Centre for the Internment of Foreigners) in Málaga, and will be deported shortly thereafter to Algeria.
The men deported have committed the crime of “demonstrating peacefully on hunger strike for three weeks” in their struggle for the freedom of movement and against the detention of almost four years that the migrants in the CETI in Melilla continue to suffer. They have been detained and deported as a consequence of an inexplicable reprisal on the part of the local representative of our Socialist government. This is the only way in which we can make sense of the fact that only the participants in the strike have been detained and deported.
In the race between Zapatero and Berlusconi to see who can expel more migrants, and whose methods of doing so are better, Zapatero can add ten to his tally.

Sobre las 07:00 de la mañana un amplio y desproporcionado dispositivo policial ha rodeado y detenido a los inmigrantes argelinos que estaban concentrados en la Plaza de España de Melilla. En principio los inmigrantes fueron trasladados a comisaría y posteriormente han sido trasladados al CETI para recoger sus pertencias y nuevamente a comisaría.
La decisión tomada por el nuevo Delegado del Gobierno tiene todas las características de una represalia inconcebible en nuestro Estado de Derecho. Hemos de considerar que solo han sido detenidos los ciudadanos argelinos que han estado tres semanas en huelga de hambre, y ninguno de los argelinos internos en el CETI en igualdad de condiciones y con orden de expulsión. La operación es en consecuencia una operación de castigo y este es aparentemente el único motivo por el cual se ejecuta su expulsión. Objetivo de esta deportación al estilo TORQUEMADA es sin duda lanzar un mensaje a navegantes y asegurar así la sumisión de los internos del CETI, que a partir de hoy deben aceptar su situación de detención indefinida o su expulsión inmediata como única alternativa. El Gobierno sigue así con la táctica que inició en el 2005 de utilizar un lenguaje humanitario y respetuoso con los derechos de las personas y realizar una práctica absolutamente contraria a lo que predica, en un proceso que nos recuerda mucho a los procesos que se llevaron a cabo en España durante la oscura época de la SANTÍSIMA INQUISICIÓN.

At 7.00am today, a disproportionately large police force surrounded and detained the Algerian migrants who were demonstrating in the Plaza de España in Melilla. At first the migrants were transferred to the Comisaría [Police HQ]; they were subsequently taken to the CETI to collect their belongings, after which they were transferred back to the Comisaría.
This decision taken by the new Delegate of the Government displays all the characteristics of a reprisal which should be unthinkable in our democratic rule of law. Consider the fact that only those Algerians who were on hunger strike for three weeks have been detained; none of the Algerians who remained in the CETI with the same conditions and expulsion orders were detained. The operation therefore is a punitive one, and the punishment meted out seems to be the sole motive for carrying out their expulsions. The goal of this deportation carried out in the style of TORQUEMADA is undoubtedly to send out a signal and to ensure the submission of those held in the CETI, who from today onwards are forced to accept their indefinite detention, or summary expulsion as the only alternative. The Government thus continues with the tactics it began in 2005; it uses a humanitarian language that is respectful of people’s rights, and carries out a practice that is the absolute opposite of what it preaches, in a manner that reminds us a great deal of what took place in Spain in the dark years of the HOLY INQUISITION.

MAÑANA LOS INMIGRANTES SEGUIRÁN CONCENTRADOS PERO COMERÁN - MIGRANTS TO BREAK THEIR FAST
Las asociaciones Pro Derechos Humanos de Melilla (APDH-ML) y de la Infancia (Prodein) quieren hacer público su reconocimiento a todas las personas que durante la pasada noche acudieron a la Plaza de España a la vigilia que se celebró en solidaridad con los inmigrantes que se encuentran acampados en ella; y en concreto al colectivo de artistas que realizaron los nuevos carteles, y a los representantes del sindicato Sate/Stes y del partido político Unión Progreso y Democracia, que allí estuvieron presentes, éste último, Emilio Guerra, hasta el amanecer. En otro orden de cosas informamos que mañana lunes, a las 13,00 horas, se celebrará un acto en el mismo lugar; acto en el que los inmigrantes darán por concluida la huelga de hambre.

Emilio Guerra, coordinador melillense de Unión, Progreso y Democracia, quiere hacer un llamamiento a los responsables políticos y opinión pública española en general, para que se tome conciencia y ponga fin a la situación de los inmigrantes indios y argelinos acampados en la Plaza de España, en huelga de hambre desde hace 15 días, reclamando la intervención de las autoridades españolas, la revisión documental de su situación y el posterior traslado a la Península.El líder de UPyD, considera el contexto como “muy grave” ya que los inmigrantes se encuentran en un estado físico lamentable, algunos ya hospitalizados, otros con apenas fuerzas para incluso hablar y psicológicamente con la moral bastante deteriorada, lo que puede originar alguna desgracia irreparable, como fue el intento de suicidio de uno de ellos arrojándose al mar por la Ensenada de los Galápagos.La actitud de la Delegación del Gobierno, es para Emilio Guerra, más que reprobable e ineficaz. Quiero recordar, continuaba, las palabras en su toma de posesión del nuevo Delegado gubernativo, el socialista Gregorio Escobar, cuando dijo que uno de sus principales objetivos serán las políticas sociales. Pues bien, “es hora que el Sr. Escobar afronte con valentía una de sus responsabilidades y demuestre a la sociedad su capacidad para gestionar la problemática”La dirección melillense de Unión, Progreso y Democracia, considera triste y penoso, además de un atentado grave contra los derechos humanos más elementales, reconocidos por las leyes internacionales y el ordenamiento jurídico español, el trato y la falta de atención que están recibiendo ese grupo de personas. De la posible degeneración y agravación del conflicto, sólo las autoridades estatales serán responsables, dijo Guerra.

CONVOCAMOS UNA VIGILIA CON LOS INMIGRANTES LA NOCHE DEL SÁBADO AL DOMINGO
Sigue la huelga de hambre en la Plaza de España sin que ninguna administración muestre la más mínima sensibilidad por la situación de catástrofe humanitaria que viven los inmigrantes.
Cuando toca a su fin la tercera semana de huelga de hambre los inmigrantes, sin fuerzas casi par hablar, insisten en continuarla y afirman que si es necesario morirán antes que volver al CETI de Melilla.
PRODEIN Y PRODERECHOS HUMANOS DE MELILLA convocan a todos los ciudadanos de la ciudad a participar en una vigilia la noche del sábado al domingo junto a los inmigrantes y en solidaridad con ellos.

La huelga de hambre “no va a llegar a ningún puerto”, según Escobar

"Querer forzar una toma de decisiones por parte del Gobierno de España con actitudes de presión no va a llegar ningún puerto". Esta fue la respuesta que el delegado de Gobierno, Gregorio Escobar ofreció ayer los inmigrantes que están en la Plaza de España ante su la negativa de abandonar una huelga de hambre sin tener un compromiso de la Delegación.
Para el delegado de Gobierno, la postura más inteligente no es la de querer "forzar" el proceso de estudio de los diferentes expedientes de expulsión que pesan sobre los inmigrantes que llegan a la ciudad de forma irregular. Máxime, cuando son personas "bien atendidas" en el Centro de Estancia Temporal de Inmigrantes (CETI), tal y como explicó ayer en los micrófonos de la emisora local de Radio Nacional.
De hecho, el máximo responsables de la Administración central en el ciudad aseguró que pase lo que pase se va a actuar "el marco de la estricta aplicación de la Ley de Extranjería", y que a partir de ahí se van a ver que casos tienen un carácter más especial y por tanto, "por razones humanitarias" pudieran verse beneficiados para poder acceder a la Península.
Precisamente en esto último es en lo que han querido hacer hincapié responsables de la Delegación de Gobierno cuando se han reunido con portavoces de los inmigrantes. Unos encuentros en los que, según aseguró ayer Escobar, se les ha insistido en que el proceso de estudio individualizado de los casos se mantiene aún abierto.
En este sentido, el delegado también quiso enviar otro mensaje a los inmigrantes a través de los micrófonos de Radio Nacional: que quienes están haciendo esta huelga de hambre se están perjudicando a ellos mismos puesto que el hecho de permanecer en la Plaza de España y no estar en CETI hace que se paralice el proceso de estudio de su expediente, para que "en un momento dado" se puede regularizar su situación en el país.
Control sanitario
En cuanto a la salud de los inmigrantes, Escobar aseguró que se está haciendo un seguimiento diario sanitario con un facultativo del CETI y que están informados de cada traslado que tienen que realizar las ambulancias al Hospital Comarcal. Por el momento, la mayoría han tenido que ser atendidos por dolores estomacales y por hipoglucemias, aunque en el caso de que se agravase la situación Escobar asegura que desde la Delegación "intervendríamos".
Los inmigrantes argelinos que se encuentran en la Plaza de España cumplen hoy dos semanas de hambre, y un día más en el caso de la decena de extranjeros que proceden de la región asiática de Cachemira. Un periodo que se encuentra muy por encima de los que se prolongaron las otras dos huelgas de hambre de inmigrantes del CETI a las que tuvo que hacer frente José Fernández Chacón en su etapa como delegado en Melilla. Así, la protesta que iniciaron los mismo argelinos que a día de hoy están frente a la Delegación apenas duró un día, mientras que la de los inmigrantes de Bangladesh tan sólo 24 horas más.

DOS ARGELINOS EN ESTADO GRAVE EN EL HOSPITAL - TWO ALGERIANS IN A CRITICAL STATE

Esta tarde han sido ingresados graves dos argelinos de los que realizan la huelga de hambre en Melilla.
El primero de ellos se arrojó al mar en lo que parece un intento de suicidio. El joven llevaba tres días diciendo que quería morir, la noche anterior la pasó entera llorando y al medio día se arrojó al mar en una zona escarpada si saber nadar. Gracias a la llamada telefónica de unos pescadores y la rápida intervención de la Guardia Civil pudo salvarse. Su estado era crítico, según fuentes hospitalarias expulsó dos litros de agua de los pulmones.
El segundo tenía un nivel de azúcar mínimo y mal funcionamiento del corazón. Tuvo que ser trasladado al hospital por una UVI móvil, dos ambulancias y más de cuatro personas lo atendieron sobre el terreno.
Los inmigrantes a pesar de su precario estado de salud se reafirman en seguir con la huelga hasta que se solucione su situación. Afirman que seguirán con la misma aunque mueran en el intento de salir de Melilla definitivamente, la ciudad-carcel donde muchos de ellos permanecen prisioneros desde hace casi tres años.

Thanks to a phone call from some fishermen and the rapid arrival of the Guardia Civil he was saved. He was in a critical state, and according to sources at the hospital, he expelled two litres of water from his lungs.
The second had a minimal level of blood sugar and a malfunctioning heart. He had to be transferred to the hospital in a mobile ICU; two ambulances and more than four people had to attend to him on the ground.
The migrants, despite their precarious state of health, have declared that they will continue with the strike until their situation is solved. They state firmly that they will continue with the strike even if it means dying, because their aim is to leave Melilla once and for all – Melilla, the jail-city, where many of them have had to stay as prisoners for what is now almost three years.

A las 8:30 h. de hoy cuando los inmigrantes estaban desayunando en el comedor del CETI, las fuerzas de seguridad han entrado en el recinto y han detenido a 10 ciudadanos de Bangladesh trasladándolos posteriormente a comisaría para proceder a su deportación.
Dos de los detenidos eran solicitantes de asilo por lo que han sido puestos en libertad, otros 28 han podido escapar y permanecen huidos y escondidos por la ciudad. La persecución a los ciudadanos de Bangladesh dura ya casi dos meses y está provocando una grave crisis humanitaria ya que permanecen escondidos sin recibir alimentos, asistencia médica ni de ningún tipo.
Por otro lado sigue la huelga de hambre en la Plaza de España. Situación crítica igualmente, en las últimas doce horas cuatro personas han tenido que ser trasladadas al hospital local dode han permanecido varias horas.

At 8.30 am this morning, while the migrants were eating their breakfast in the CETI dining hall, security forces entered the grounds and took ten Bangladeshi citizens into their custody, and subsequently transferred them to the Comisaría (Police HQ) to process their deportation.
Two of those arrested were asylum-seekers, and as a result were released. Another 28 were able to escape and remain in flight, hidden in the city. The chasing down of Bangladeshi citizens has now gone on for almost two months, and is creating a serious humanitarian crisis, as they remain hidden and unable to receive food or medical assistance of any kind.
Elsewhere, the hunger-strike continues in the Plaza de España. This is also a critical situation: in the last twelve hours, four people have had to be transferred to the local hospital where they have now remained for some hours.

SEPTIMO DIA DE HUELGA DE HAMBRE - SEVENTH DAY ON HUNGER STRIKE
Hoy es el séptimo día de huelga de hambre de los hidúes y argelinos retenidos en el CETI de Melilla durante más de dos años.
El estado físico de los huelguistas se está deteriorando por momentos y a nadie parece importarle, ayer seis personas tuvieron que ser atendidas en urgencias y hoy ha sido una. Son continuas las idas y venidas de las ambulancias en la Plaza de España.
La semana pasada se registró un escrito en la Delegación del Gobierno solicitando una entrevista para ver la posibilidad de desbloquear la situación pero no ha habido ninguna respuesta por parte de la institución.
Los huelguistas, a pesar de su debilidad física, muestran una gran determinación y aseguran que no volverán al CETI de ninguna manera, afirman que morirán de hambre en la Plaza de España antes que volver a la situación de partida.

SIGUE LA HUELGA DE HAMBRE EN MELILLA - THE HUNGER STRIKE IN MELILLA CONTINUES
Los ciudadanos de India retenidos en el CETI de Melilla manifiestan a últimas horas del hoy su firme determinación de prolongar la huelga de hambre, todo lo que sea necesario, para denunciar la situación por la que atraviesan tras 3 años de retención en Melilla.
Durante su estancia en Melilla los inmigrantes solo tienen derecho a una cama, comida y asistencia sanitaria de urgencias. No pueden trabajar ni salir de la ciudad, con frecuencia se les oye decir que están "prisioneros en una cárcel con un patio grande".
El delito que han cometido para tener que sufrir esta condena, que dura en muchos casos tres años, es simplemente el ideal de buscar un sitio donde poder trabajar y ayudar sus familias a salir de la hambruna y la miseria a la que están sometidas gracias a la actividad industrial, financiera y política de las grandes empresas multinacionales de los países del norte.
Los inmigrantes en huelga demandan que la situación acabe de cualquiera de las formas posibles: Deportación o Traslado a la península.
No están dispuestos a soportar una violación de sus derechos como trabajadores tres años mas.
A las 23:15 uno de los huelguistas ha tenido que ser trasladado a un servicio de urgencias médicas al sufrir frecuentes vómitos y fiebre alta.

THE HUNGER STRIKE IN MELILLA CONTINUES
As the day drew to close, the Indian citizens held at the CETI in Melilla have demonstrated their clear determination to continue their hunger strike and to take all means necessary to publicly denounce the situation that they have had to endure during their 3 years of detention in Melilla.
During their stay in Melilla, the migrants only have the right to a bed, food, and emergency health care. They can’t work and they can’t leave the city. One often hears them say they are “prisoners in a jail with a large yard”.
The “crime” they have committed which carries this sentence—a sentence that lasts in many cases for three years—is just aiming to look for somewhere to work and to help their families out of the famine and poverty to which they are subjected to as a result of the industrial, financial and political activity of large multinational companies in the countries of the advanced North.
The migrants on strike are demanding that their current situation be brought to a close: deport us or transfer us to the peninsula.
They are simply not willing to tolerate a violation to their rights as workers for three more years.
At 23.15 one of the men on hunger strike had to be transferred to an emergency medical facility after he began to vomit repeatedly and to have a high temperature.
